June 20, Positive Affirmation for Joy

"I understand the meaning of joy.
I know that joy is a deep freedom.
"

… Greetings! Our theme is Joy. This third week of the month we work with being and intending for joy at DailyAffirm. Here are comments about today’s affirmation, suggestions for your process, and information about related articles.

About Today’s Affirmation
I have been reflecting on the meaning of "deep freedom" and how that might compare with just "freedom." Freedom is often thought of as "freedom from," for example, freedom from an unhappy relationship or dissatisfying job or slavery or oppression. The joy of such "freedom from" is often short-lived, likely followed by recreating bondage in either similar or different forms. By "deep freedom" I am attempting to convey the depth of freedom that is possible when you live in joy, a joy that comes from deep within you regardless of the outer circumstances or life dramas or relationships with others. (Incidentally, DailyAffirm explores the theme of freedom in October.)

About Your Process
What is the true meaning of joy for you? And if you define joy as a freedom, is it "freedom from" or "freedom to"? Through what experiences have you gained your understanding of the meaning of joy? I suggest you take a few minutes to write — preferably stream of consciousness writing — about the meaning of joy. Let the energy of joy bubble up to teach you its deep meaning. Nothing I nor anyone else can say can teach you as much as you can learn from clear listening deep within you.
